R. D. Raja, who has previously worked as a creative producer for Sivakarthikeyan on films such as Varuthapadatha Valibar Sangam, Maan Karate, Kaaki Sattai, and Rajinimurugan, has produced his debut film, titled Remo. The movie was supposed to be out on March 14, 2015, however, its release was temporarily pushed back while the screenplay was being finished and the cast and crew were being finalized. On July 1, 2015, the project officially got off the ground with the introduction of the technical staff. The first day of principal filming for this movie was on October 25, 2015, and it lasted until August 2, 2016. The locations that were used for filming were Chennai, Vizag, and Pondicherry. In February of 2016, the title of the next movie was revealed to be Remo.
The film was released internationally on October 7, 2016, for Dusshera. Critics praised Sivakarthikeyan's performance as a female nurse and his makeover attempts. The film was criticized for glorifying stalking and Keerthy Suresh's persona. It grossed over 50 crores on a 35 crore budget. The film garnered three nominations at the 64th Filmfare Awards South and five at the 6th South Indian International Movie Awards, where it won two and Sivakarthikeyan won the best actor.
