The film was filmed mostly in Chennai, and the principal shooting began in August 2013 and wrapped up in May 2014. Both of these dates fall in the year 2014. The movie was released on July 18, 2014, and it was met with generally favorable reviews from critics. It was redone in Kannada as Brihaspathi, the name of the film (2018).
